Snowmobile Poker Run

This popular fundraising event is now in its 23rd year and has raised more than $150,000 for a local charity. Participants ride the trails from shelter cabin to shelter cabin collecting tokens along the way. These shelter cabins provide a wonderful opportunity to warm up, share a story with a friend and have a warm coffee, hot chocolate or even a plate of pancakes. At the end of the day tokens are turned in for a draw of a poker hand. Top prize will be awarded a 2012 snowmobile. All proceeds will go to the Haliburton Volunteer Fire Department for all their selfless efforts. Fee is $50 per person. Snowshoeing with the Haliburton Highlands Land Trust

Participants will be introduced to the basic equipment required for snow-shoeing, including maintenance and safety. There will be an opportunity to rent equipment provided by AO Boatwerks (through pre-registration) and to participate in a group snowshoe with local guide Thom Lambert. An experienced outdoors man, Thom will be on-hand to provide walking tips, proper equipment use for a variety of outdoors winter surfaces, and pointers for beginners and intermediate snowshoers. Seniors with their own equipment are also encouraged to come discover the Dahl Forest Trails and ask questions of the experts. Time: 1-4pm (Duration 3 hours.) This event is Part Two of the “Silent Sports for Seniors” Outdoor Event Series at Dahl Forest for 2012, due to generous funding from the Winterfest Legacy Fund. The Narrative of Landscape - Agnes Jamieson Gallery

Artist Elaine Carr is interested in human evidence on the land from a mapping / surveying viewpoint. Her work is a combination of topographical maps aerial photographs applied to a plaster resin with pictorial imagery drawn on top. This work views the land from both internal and external using different perspectives simultaneously, giving a sense of both real and unreal. Elaine Carr is a visual artist and educator. She received an interdisciplinary Master of Arts Degree from Holy Names College, Oakland, California, a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Windsor and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from the University of Western Ontario. The Art & Syrup of Maple

2 day experience. The sap is a runnin’. Experience the world of the maple tree and its bounty with this “sweet” three day adventure in the Haliburton Highlands. Discover the art and science of producing maple syrup by participating in traditional and modern day maple syrup operations, exploring a sugar bush on snowshoes, dining on maple cuisine, visiting Moon Shadow Estate Winery to taste their signature maple wine, indulging in a Maple Sugar spa foot treatment, and creating your own maple syrup pitcher and amber coloured glass art in a glassblowing workshop at Artech Studio. You will stay at the Inukshuk Manor B&B where your hosts, Brian and Dorothy Menton produce their own maple syrup.
